Watercolor Pencil Technique from Prismacolor
Prismacolor watercolor pencils are professional quality, water-soluble colored pencils. They match other Prismacolor pencils and have superior lightfastness.Mixing pencils with watercolor pencils is ideal for experimenting with different textures and colors of paper to produce varied effects. Some technique suggestions are:
- Underpainting technique. Underpaint broad spaces with washes of color. Then add detail and bring artwork to life by defining shapes and areas, using the point of your Prismacolor Watercolor Pencil.
- Texture technique. Create a thick texture with Watercolor Pencils by layering colors then using the edge of your pencil, press heavily for a dark, grainy texture or lightly for a subtle shading effect.
- Gradation technique. Increase or decrease the intensity of any pencil just by varying the pressure you exert on the drawing surface.
- Shading technique. Bring out highlights by creating shadows with Prismacolor Watercolor Pencils. To darken, use a pencil of the same color with a greater value or use Cool Grey or Black for a bolder effect.
- Highlighting technique. Accentuate shadows by creating highlights with the Watercolor Pencils. To lighten, use a pencil of the same color with less value or try White, Cream or French Grey for a more outstanding effect.
